OUR STORY

Shama is a family-run flower farm & Seed Company Specializing in

Growing speciality cut flowers & Dahlia Cultivation.

We are two sisters following our floral dreams, our journey was birthed through extreme burnout in two different places at the same time. Shama was the call from YHWH to save us from the depths we found ourselves in. Our story has only begun but our dreams are big and we hope you enjoy following us on our journey. Our love for flowers and our ambition to ‘one day’ farm flowers together, has been a dream for years. In October 2023 we decided to make our ‘one day’ today, and so Shama Flower Farm & Fijnebloem was born. Our two micro farms are currently situated in the Western and Eastern Cape and we are desperately searching for our forever farm where we can create our legacy. By supporting us, you are helping us find it!

Hi, I’m June, and me and my sister Marli, are the heart and hands behind Shama Farm Flowers. For as long as I can remember me and my sister had a dream of starting a flower farm together, but it always felt very much just like a dream. Before I became a flower farmer, I was a wedding photographer, chasing moments of beauty and connection. But that journey left me drained—burned out in a world that rarely pauses. Planting flowers became my refuge, and soon, it became clear that this was more than just a hobby. It was my soul’s way of listening to God’s gentle call to slow down, reset, and obey His leading.

Having two littles that constantly need my attention also made me realize that the hustle and bustle of the Wedding industry was just not for me anymore. And when I was diagnosed with Gallstones in May of 2024 and was extremely ill for about 5 months, I had to make a change.

“Shama” is a Hebrew word that means “to listen and obey.” It serves as the foundation of everything we do here on the farm—listening to the rhythms of nature and obeying the call to grow with purpose. Flowers have a healing power, and for me, they have been the answer to a deep need for peace.

I’ve been planting Dahlias for a few years, and they have always been close to my heart. They were my grandmother’s favorite flower, we were extremely close and though I lost her when I was only five, growing dahlias feel like a way to honor her memory. My dream is to fill the fields with their blooms, keeping her spirit alive with every flower that opens.

What we hope to create for Shama, is a space where everyone and anyone can come to renew their spirits, find rest and peace in nature and find healing in the beauty and joy that flowers bring to wounds we didn’t even know we had.
