Seed Sowing & Growing Notes
Direct sow outdoors in early spring as soon as soil can be worked, or in autumn in mild winter areas for earlier blooms. Seeds require a period of cold stratification for best germination—chill in a refrigerator for 2 weeks before sowing. Sow seeds directly into prepared soil, covering lightly, and keep evenly moist until germination. Avoid transplanting when possible, as larkspur dislikes root disturbance.
Harvesting/Vase Life
Harvest when one-third to one-half of the florets on the stem are open. Remove most foliage before placing stems into water. Expect a vase life of 6 to 8 days. Excellent for drying—cut when flowers are at peak colour and hang upside down in a warm, dark, well-ventilated area until completely dry.
